I thought it was really cool that Sparkler Monthly is listed on this holiday gift guide!
I also found out from this that I can stream Crunchyroll on our PS4. Attack on Titan marathons on the big screen, here we come!
Archie comics have about 4000 issues. *boggles* A friend of mine gave me his collection of Richie Rich comics several years ago. I still read them from time to time. :) I wish I was a zillionaire. Richie has the coolest things ever.
Issue #005 starts today, with a brand new series: Dead Endings. Subscribe to Sparkler to check it out!
In the city that never sleeps, spirits are equally restless and vie for the attentions of those who can sense them. Cailen Delaney, grad student and long-suffering ghost magnet, is dragged into the aftermath of a strange series of murders by Everett Jung - a fellow sensitive with an…usual ability. Armed with nothing but coffee and alcohol-fueled cynicism, Cailen reluctantly joins him on a search that seems to end in death at every turn.
We also have a subscriber exclusive holiday card from Romy-chan, featuring adorable winter-themed chibis of Sparkler characters!

Gauntlet is on break this month but will be back in January. (I got to see some previews of art for some upcoming characters that I think you will like a lot…hehe.) Check out the newest Sparkler title, though — Dead Endings. It sounds really cool and right up my alley, and I can’t wait to read it!
Also, subscribers can see and download super cute chibi art of characters from all the Sparkler titles. (Link above) Be sure to check out Clio and Britt. ADORBS! (Yes, I said adorbs. ;p)
There’s a revolution of small presses going on right now. Where parts of the mainstream media have repeatedly straightwashed and whitewashed media, small presses devoted to celebrating diversity have sprung up, from diversity in YA, started by the author Malinda Lo, to places like Chromatic Press, and Crossed-Genres.
I was introduced to Sparkler Monthly earlier this year, and I have to say I’m very impressed at the dedication of the tireless staff. It provides an accessible, casual-yet-professional setting for work with a group of experienced editors. I am especially impressed on their attention to, and respect of trans* identities in every aspect of the process in a way that few other companies would take the time to do.
In my time on tumblr, I’ve seen many people mourn the lack of diversity in media. Growing up as a cisgendered queer woman, it honestly took me longer to realize my own sexuality because I didn’t have queer protagonists to look up to. For the longest time, because every instance of homosexuality in media was so othered, I saw nothing of myself in these two-minute cameos, and stereotyped comic relief characters. The world around me was nothing but straightness all around, so much so that I didn’t realize until my mid-teens that there even was another option.
Much has changed since the eighties and nineties, but we are still working towards change. And it is not something to be thought to lightly of. To paraphrase Grassroots: A Field Guide for Feminist Activism By Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards, writing is a form of activism. To write inclusive worlds, to champion inclusive media and fight for the right to be represented in fiction should not be underestimated. Just as lack of queer characters made my sexual awakening far more painful, exposure to well-rounded diverse characters of all sexual orientations and backgrounds could make the difference for people of all ages, whether it be in understanding the other, or finding a person like them in a sea of hostile faces.
Sparkler Monthly has not only a focus on diverse sexuality, gender and, but they also focus on something which is desperately needed in inclusive fiction—fun. Featuring strong, engaging characters of all kinds and action-filled plots, Sparkler Monthly, and its parent press Chromatic Press do more than pay lip service to change. They and other indie presses like it are becoming the change they wish to see in the world, to quote Ghandi.
And frankly, I am honored to work with them.
Jean: They’re PO-TA-TOES. Aren’t those your best friends?
Sasha: You… what’s that supposed to mean? I’ve already forgotten that stupid stuff.
Jean: Don’t worry, Sasha, nobody else has, and we’ll make sure to remind you.
LOL. I love Jean.
And more reasons why Levi is my number 1.
Eren: You guys… did you wipe your shoes clean on the doormat before you came in?
Jean: Do you not see our hands are full? Nobody’s got time to wipe their feet on the rug.
Eren: Don’t you understand? Do you think this half-assed work is going to satisfy Captain Levi? If I hadn’t helped you make the bed today—
Levi: Because we felt sorry about your right arm boo-boo titan food business, we made a lot of decisions in your absence.

Ran the latest raid in WoW this week — Hellscream’s Downfall.
The ending cinematic made me very conflicted.
Oh, Jaina… I swear, if they make her go bad in the next expansion, I will cry! Jaina/Thrall have always been my favorites and my WoW OTP (in a sibling-esque way, espcially now that Thrall is married), and now their friendship is all messed up, and Jaina is…messed up. THANKS GARROSH and BLIZZ!
